XPay has announced a $1 million funding round to develop its payment infrastructure for AI agents and APIs. The company’s announcement, published by FinanceWire on 22 October 2026, names nine participating investors.

The reported backers are DCI, Credit Scend, Skyland Ventures, Zerra Ventures, BigBull Capital, ERC20 Capital, EU Capital, Dubai Blockchain Lab and The Crypto Launchpad. The announcement also identifies Andy Cheung, former Chief Operating Officer of OKX and founder and CEO of K25.ai, as an advisor.

Funding the infrastructure behind each request

The stated priorities include broader network support, an independent security review, developer tooling, an API marketplace and European compliance preparation. These are intended uses of the funding. They should not be read as confirmation that every planned feature or review has already been completed.

Where XPay fits into x402

An API can use x402 to attach payment requirements to a request for data or a service. A compatible buyer can then authorize payment and request access. XPay operates facilitator infrastructure around that process, helping resource servers verify payment payloads and settle supported payments onchain.

The distinction matters: x402 is an open standard. XPay is a provider implementing services around it. The funding announcement concerns XPay, not a fundraising round for the x402 standard itself.

Why this matters for API businesses

Consider a research tool that needs one paid data lookup to answer a question. A payment attached to that lookup can support a different buying experience from a monthly subscription. For the seller, the practical challenge is making payment, delivery and support work together reliably.

A useful integration needs clear prices, documented access requirements and receipts that help resolve a disputed or interrupted request. Those operational details will be important as payment-enabled agents move into everyday products.
